Maurrocks Bed & Breakfast

Our home was constructed in 1948 and is considered one of the Grand Old Homes of Mount Pocono. The original owner was a prominent New York City real estate developer. He purchased seven lots to create this unique wooded, relaxing island for his young bride and him to enjoy as their summer cottage.

Two years later, he died suddenly at 50 years of age and his widow sold the home to another New York City real estate developer and his wife. They continued to use the property as their summer residence for over 35 years.

By the time we purchased it, this once lovely home had fallen into serious disrepair. We determined to return this property to
its original glory. From refinishing the original hardwood flooring, upgrading the plumbing and heating, tons of repairs, major and minor, and cleaning – lots & lots of cleaning, we worked for months to achieve that goal.

Once we had, we decided the home deserved to be treated as it was when it was first built. We’ve furnished the guest spaces with vintage period furniture, mainly in the Art Deco style, which one would have expected to find in a 1940s home. Maureen spent months searching for the right pieces, which we gathered from over six states. (We made an 11-hour round trip to acquire the set in the “Red Room”!)

At the time our home was constructed, Bed & Breakfast Inns (mostly known as “Tourist Homes” then) were the number one business in Mount Pocono. Maurrocks opened in April 2018 as the Borough’s first B&B in the modern era. To do so, we spent nearly a year “fighting City Hall” for a change in the zoning ordinance and then to obtain a B&B permit.
