Description
Constructed in 1918, the Adams mansion was the private residence of John Hampton “Hamp” Adams and wife Elizabeth, and their two daughters, Elizabeth and Nell for nearly two decades. Guests were welcomed and entertained in true southern style. As they entered the stately home, visitors marveled at the grand staircase, richly-carved moldings, marblefireplaces, beautiful wood floors and elegantly furnished rooms.
Born in South Carolina in 1895, Hamp moved to High Point to become associated with James Henry Millis, a prominent industrialist and businessman. He soon convinced Mr. Millis to enter into the hosiery business. Together, they grew the Adams Millis Corporation into one of the largest hosiery manufacturing companies in the world. Both Hamp and Elizabeth were prominent, active figures in High Point’s society and community.
The Inn
In early 2000, an extensive renovation of the residence began ending in fall of 2001, when the High Point community welcomed the J.H. Adams Inn, with the Hampton home serving as the heart of the Inn. The guest experience starts with choosing a room among the 31 rooms with unique furniture collections from around the world, king or queen beds and spacious private baths. Guests appreciate our standard room amenities (including premium Sealy mattresses, plus robes and lavish bathrooms) but most of all, they look forward to being welcomed warmly and treated graciously at “their” inn. Whether you come on business, to shop for furniture or celebrate that special occasion, know that we look forward to welcoming you.Address
