Historical Portsmouth NH
HISTORIC BEGINNINGS & MODERN HOSPITALITYThe land on which The Sailmaker’s House sits was purchased from Thomas Pierce in 1822 by John Holbrook. As a sailmaker, John conducted business at his waterfront shop downtown, pictured above. The house stayed in the Holbrook family until it was sold in 1902 as a residence and later as an inn.
In 2017 local hospitality leaders Amanda and Jay McSharry purchased the inn and completely renovated it; capturing Portsmouth’s historic and maritime influences, and updating it with today’s amenities and technology. Creating a stylish inn with beautifully decorated guestrooms with private baths.
