Description
Hidden in a Redwood Forest
Mendocino Farmhouse is nestled in a private redwood forest just minutes from the village of Mendocino. The inn is surrounded by beautiful gardens and a redwood forest that includes wild rhododendrons and our largest redwood tree, which is over 100 years old.
Across from the Farmhouse is the Barn Cottage that sits in the middle of our flower and vegetable garden. We have a flock of assorted laying hens that give us our fresh eggs for breakfast and baking. In season, we gather wild huckleberries and black berries to make our award winning jams.
I love seeing the familiar faces of my returning guests and it’s always fun to meet new people.
Mendocino Farmhouse wasn’t always a Bed and Breakfast. The Farmhouse and barn were built for my family in 1976 on a five acre parcel of land that was logged to make a clearing for the buildings and garden. The gardens were finished a few years later after much work and lots of mulch and horse manure. There were milk goats in the barn, a flock of chickens and a big vegetable garden. Now most of the vegetables have been replaced with flowers and berries. In 1985 the rooms in the house were converted into four guest rooms and the barn was made into two rooms.
