Description
The Mathis House, former home of Thomas A. Mathis, who early in the last century was a leading political figure in Ocean County. The mansion, a stunning example of Dutch Revival architecture, was built in 1897. It is a three-story structure, with a grand porch, portico, graceful lawns and the original preserved carriage house. Visitors can use the circular driveway from Main Street to enter through the home’s magnificent wooden front doors, or use the private well-lit parking area located behind the Inn.
The mansion has an impressive foyer, Parlor Room, formal Dining Room, Library, Breakfast Room and Sea Glass Room on the first floor all decorated with exquisite formal seating for the entire Tea Room. The focal point of the entrance includes an impressive wooden oak staircase near the baby grand piano that leads up to the second floor and a gathering room for our five guest suites: Lady Genevieve, Princess Victoria, Countess Stephanie, Lady Samantha and the famous, Queen Alexa, all with private bathrooms and upscale amenities. The beauty continues to the staircase to the third floor where there is another living area and our VIP Guest Suite, dedicated in honor of Sir Thomas Mathis.
